Understanding your results
The timeline shows key milestones in chronological order. USA applications typically run from spring of junior year through January of senior year. UK UCAS applications are due by January 15 (October 15 for Oxbridge/medicine). Australian applications have different timelines for Semester 1 (February start) and Semester 2 (July start).
Start early — the biggest mistake students make is underestimating how long essays, recommendations, and financial aid applications take.
Frequently asked questions
The Common Application opens on August 1. Early Decision/Early Action deadlines are typically November 1–15. Regular Decision deadlines are usually January 1–15. Results come out in December (early) or March–April (regular).
The main UCAS deadline is January 15 for most courses. Oxford, Cambridge, medicine, dentistry, and veterinary science have an earlier deadline of October 15. Late applications are accepted until June 30 but may have fewer available places.
Ideally, start 12–18 months before your target enrollment. For US fall entry, start in the spring of your junior year (around March–April). For UK September entry via UCAS, start at the beginning of Year 12 (September–October of the prior year).
