The University of Queensland (UQ) was established in 1909 by an Act of the Queensland Parliament as the state's university. Its main St Lucia campus is set on University Drive beside the Brisbane River, with additional teaching and research locations including Gatton and Herston.

UQ offers undergraduate and postgraduate programs across six faculties: arts; business, economics and law; engineering, architecture and information technology; health and behavioural sciences; medicine; and science. The university is a member of the Group of Eight and is widely recognised for research in life sciences, engineering and the social sciences.
